In Dystopi, players have a wide range of possibilities: they have to operate a whole economy and society, but ultimately, it revolves around combat. The plot, mining, and competitive game modes all require players to prove their combat skills as warriors. Different game modes demand different play styles from players, ideally with equipment that complements the character's abilities and attributes. Dystopi's management and combat system can be envisioned as a blend of MMORPG and tower defense games. Players see their character in third-person view and must aim certain attacks in the right direction to inflict damage on their opponent, while others require targeting.
Different species, castes and factions will have their own skills and abilities, with different terms of use like range, cooldown, rage, or having low health and also different behaviour by nature: some skills simply cause damage once, while others are over-time, or area based.
When players choose to play a game mode that includes fighting against NPCs may be of any kind, reward calculation algorithms start to count. This includes several factors, such as the aggregate mining rate of the character (its the sum of each NFT’s mining rates), the level and the opponents’ level, how much time the character spends in combat and a couple more similar factors. In the case of the player killing its enemy, it also gets kill bonus which is added to the combat score.
